In the immortal words of Han Solo, “I’ve got a bad feeling about this…”

You may find Franny Armstrong a bit, well strong on the emphasis, but she’s top of her game at potent messages.

So, no surprise to me that she’s done a brilliant job at covering COP15.

The Stupid Show covers so much and thanks to Franny for summarising the mood at the end of a disastrous conference.

When I say disastrous, I mean, we needed a unified vision to take away from this meeting, and we were led to believe we might get it; well, maybe that’s naive, but I was full of hope.

Watch these pieces, the rub’s here:

    cop15

The world must have “a plan B,” said John Shepherd at COP15… I’ve watched GE become more and more mainstream over the last couple of years. Out of the shadows of unmentionable action, into the realm of possibility. “Imagine a situation in 10-15 years when a small island state is tired of seeing that the G8 or the G2 (US and China) are not doing enough to address climate change and it decides to deploy the technology unilaterally,” said Jason Blackstock.

What if the intervention makes it worse? That above all is my fear. Models are all we have. And models are as yet not enough.

This brief article about prominent Russian scientist, Yuri A. Izrael’s GE field experiments just goes to show that testing is indeed going on. This particular study appears to be pretty minor… Established wisdom dictates that any SRM atmospheric geoengineering project would have to be massive to make an impact. <crossing fingers>Perhaps it is this question of scale more than anything else which will keep dangerous activities at bay.</crossing fingers>

Oh I’ve had such a great time away! There’s something so liberating about being offline… The silence, the grandeur of wilderness, the everyday unfathomable cycle of life! Sure, I went a bit crazy, but it was a good crazy and now it’s slipping away so quickly. Work is eerily quiet after the intense note I left on… One day I’ll be able to talk about it.

A few pics from the top of the pile…
